Charles Catteau Boch Frères Keramis Art Deco Vintage Table Lamp – Turquesa
Meet Turquesa, a one-of-a-kind table lamp, meticulously transformed from a rare Boch Frères Keramis Art Deco vase (model F1291), designed by the renowned ceramic artist Charles Catteau in 1934. The vase features a distinctive oval-shaped design, accentuated by its monochrome turquoise glaze and signature crackled finish—a hallmark of the Boch Frères Keramis factory. Known for his bold experimentation with color and form, Catteau’s work during this period captures the Art Deco movement’s love for geometric shapes and vibrant colors, with this piece standing out for its elegant, bold style and artistic innovation.
Paired with a custom pleated lampshade, crafted from a vintage Indian silk sari in rich turquoise, pink, and gold floral motifs, this lamp exudes both vibrancy and sophistication. The intricate pleating introduces an element of softness, contrasting beautifully with the sleek, bold form of the vase, creating a balance of texture and color that draws the eye. This is more than a lamp—it’s a true statement piece, perfect for a living room or bedroom.

“Boch Frères Keramis was founded in 1841 by Eugène and Victor Boch and their brother-in-law, Jean-Baptiste Nothomb, in La Louviere, Belgium. Decades later in 1906, French ceramicist Charles Catteau joined the company as artistic director, a position he held for 42 years. His signature Art Deco designs were influenced by Japonisme, Cubism, and abstraction of nature, and he was ultimately responsible for the company’s transition from producing utilitarian objects to esteemed works of art. Boch Frères Keramis closed down in 1985, and though they were acquired by other companies afterward, they closed permanently in 2009.” —from Artnet
