Delftware 17th Century Chinoiserie Antique Table Lamp, New Lampshade from Vintage Silk Sari – Robert
Meet Robert (named after our wonderful partner, Robert Aronson)! Part of our exciting collaboration with the renowned 5th generation Aronson Antiquairs of Amsterdam, Robert is a one-of-a-kind lamp lovingly handcrafted from an authentic antique Delftware vase, circa 1695. We’ve paired it with a handmade custom contemporary pleated lampshade made from a crimson & saffron gold silk sari from India.
The vase base is marked with a six-pointed star and WP most probably for Dirck Witsenburgh, Delft potter and partial owner of De Witte Ster (The White Star) factory in Delft. Although there are only a few known objects made under Witsenburgh’s ownership (1690 to 1704), they are all of remarkable quality.
The vase base is painted with a group of Oriental figures and their attendants participating in a tea ceremony on one side, and an oriental man seated in front of his village on the other side. Like many of the objects made under Witsenburgh’s tenure, the painter has magnified the central elements by skilfully manipulating different types of ornamentation. The abundance of motifs featuring leaves and ribbons are characteristic of the style he implemented.
The brass top has been custom cut to the exact shape of the vase base and the lamp is also fitted with a new golden cord. E27 bulb fitting. We can adapt the plug depending on the country you will use it in.
The lamp was made without harming or permanently altering the original vase in anyway.
We ship worldwide! Personal delivery/pick-up is also possible in the greater Amsterdam area.
